The Schimmel’s got your weekend all planned out for you as the Pace Presents series brings you three nights of music.
Justin Townes Earle: In the Spirit of Woody Guthrie
Friday, October 26, 7:30 p.m., Justin Townes Earle solo with special guests John McCauley of Deer Tick and Joe Pug
Saturday, October 27, 7:30 p.m., Justin Townes Earle with full band featuring special guests The Low Anthem and Joe Pug
Two special evenings with the exceptional singer and songwriter Justin Townes Earle will include his original songs in the context of the continuing legacy of folk music pioneer Woody Guthrie in his centennial celebration year. Townes Earle, whose influences run the gamut from Randy Newman to Woody Guthrie to Bruce Springsteen, is the son of great American troubadour Steve Earle, and won the coveted Song of the Year award at the Americana Music Awards in 2011. His latest CD “Nothing’s Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now” has garnered critical acclaim.
Banjo Summit: A Gathering of 5-String Masters Featuring Béla Fleck
Sunday, October 28, 7:30 p.m.
Many of the world’s most influential bluegrass banjo players–all with ties to New York State–will unite to bring you a concert that will find the banjo being performed in both conventional and unexpected ways. In performances ranging from solos and duets to full-tilt banjo blowouts with all the players and an acoustic band, the Schimmel stage will range from the traditional backdrop of bluegrass and old-time country music to the more unconventional banjo genres including jazz, classical, and rock music. Banjo mastermind Béla Fleck will be joined by Tony Trischka, Bill Keith, Richie Stearns, Eric Weissberg, Pete Wernick, and Noam Pikelny.
$5 student tickets available for purchase the day of the show after 12:00 p.m. for both shows. $10 staff/faculty tickets are also available. For more info, visit http://schimmel.pace.edu.
