Batman Begins

Food, festivities, and best-selling author Chris Cleave discussing international refugees, global citizenship, and Batman in his keynote address are all part of the 4th Annual Convocation for first-year students on September 6.

On September 6, the PLV Campus will be alive with the sounds of first-year students kicking off their college experience! Join students, faculty, and staff at the 4th Annual Convocation, an afternoon of festivities, food, and keynote address from international best-selling author, Chris Cleave.

The theme of this year’s Convocation is “Global Citizenship: Humanity through Action.” Global citizens are people who are not only aware of issues in the wider world, but also willing to act to upon them to make the world a more equitable and sustainable place—a topic that is covered in the most dramatic of ways in this year’s common reading, Little Bee, by keynote speaker Cleave. Little Bee is told from the alternating perspectives of a Nigerian refugee and a British magazine editor and takes the reader on a journey of morality, compassion, and friendship as a traumatic event inextricably links these two women from two very different worlds.

A pre-Convocation fair will include more than 20 interactive, informative, and fun booths (many with giveaways!) and lunch. Following the ceremony and keynote address, stop by the festivities which include a mini-carnival with food, inflatable games, a tarot card reader, caricature artist, performance by acclaimed musician Jason LeVasseur, and much more!

For those of you on the NYC Campus, buses will be provided between 11:00 a.m. and noon.
