In NYC:

Practice your interview skills with professionals from different fields and get feedback to help you outshine the competition at the biannual Practice Interview Day on February 10. The registration deadline is January 31 and space is limited, so get yourself signed up today!

New to co-op? You’ll need to register for a Co-op Orientation Workshop to learn the basics about eRecruiting, internships, and more. Upcoming workshops include January 28, February 2, 3, 9, etc.

First year MBA? Hear about internships at a co-op orientation on February 1 in NYC.

Need some extra interview help? February 1, 2, 4, 8, and 9 are some upcoming dates for Interview Workshops.

Graduating this spring or summer? Mandatory Campus Recruitment Program (CRP) Workshops will be held on February 1 and 9.

Upcoming events also include the Spring Internship Kick-off on February 8, Applying to Grad School on February 15, How to Work a Career Fair/30 Second Pitch on February 24, and the big one: the NYC Spring 2011 Job & Internship Fair on March 2.

In PLV and WP:

Ace the Interview Workshops on February 8 and 23 can help you turn that interview into a job offer.

The big biannual Mock Interview Day will be held on February 10 and professional recruiters from The New York Times, A&E, INROADS, the IRS, Citibank, KPMG, and Enterprise will be there. Pre-registration is required so call (914) 773-3361 to pick up an open slot.

We hate to make her the Marcia, but gosh, she’s just too irresistible! From career fairs to interview wears, there’s never a dull moment in Career Services.

Career Services has a lot going on so let’s just get right to it.

Clear your calendars on November 16 and 17 because there’s a whole lot happening!

On November 16, Pace marketing guru Larry Chiagouris reveals the secret to getting a job after college; an HR rep from Penguin Group USA tells you why book publishing isn’t just for English majors at 3:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall South; Director and Chief Curator of the Public Art Fund Nicholas Baume discusses Careers in the Arts; and for those of you interested in pursuing that law degree, find out what the next steps are for applying to law school.  

On to November 17! From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., celebrate National Career Development Day in NYC’s Student Union with free resume review, games to test your career smarts, raffles and giveaways, free popcorn, and even some career fortune telling. Sounds like a perfect day to us. And you can add to it by picking up a full-time job or internship opportunity later in the afternoon at the Technology Career Fair in NYC. Some of the more than 30 employers attending include Apple, AT&T, Clear Channel Radio, Morgan Stanley, and McGraw-Hill, so come dressed to impress with as many resumes as you can carry! Also on November 17, CCAR in PLV is tabling for sophomores interested in hearing about Careers that Make a Difference; Graduate students should stop by to hear about job strategies in the current market from Merrill Lynch Private Wealth Management Advisor Jesse Clinton.

And don’t forget to get a leg up on your competition by picking up some skills! In PLV, attend a resume workshop on November 15 and an interview workshop on November 17. In NYC, check out interview workshops on November 12 and 16 and co-op orientation workshops on November 18 and 19.

netWorking Toward Greatness

No matter how many times we think we’re done talking about co-op events, we never are. Maybe we’d take a break if those busy bees at Career Services ever did. Until they do, your fortune is waiting…

Last week, we told you about tonight’s MPA Career Panel. Be there to hear about careers in public administration from a panel of experts working in the field, followed by a Q&A at the Grad Center in WP.

 Beta Alpha Psi keeps their Lecture Series going on November 2 when they bring you speakers from the accounting, finance, and information technology industries to share their insight and experiences about work and current issues, as well as network with students interested in these fields in NYC.

Go beyond the interview and showcase your skills to prospective employers at the PwC xACT case competition on November 3 in NYC.  You don’t have to be an accounting major to participate; you just have to be a team player and a business major with the desire to win and work hard. This isn’t your everyday accounting…it’s xTREME accounting.

Three forks in a formal place setting.  Which one is the salad fork?  Let ASCEND show you how to properly dine in a professional setting, as you network with professionals on November 2 in NYC.

Looking to work for the federal government, but having trouble figuring out their confusing site?  Learn how to search for positions effectively and efficiently to apply for that dream position on November 4 in WP.

Is there an advanced degree in your future? Is the jury still out? Pace’s Applying to Graduate Programs workshop on Tuesday, October 5, at 3:30 p.m., may help you decide, as well as explaining application procedures, testing information, and the Law School Program at Pace. Career Paths at Bank of New York Mellon on Wednesday, October 13, at 12:20 p.m., helps you discover how your major fits in with a successful career at a global bank. Ever been, out from 9 to 5? Well Dolly Parton was right; it is tough to make a living. Also on October 13, at 5:30 p.m., Out in the Workplace, lets you hear first-hand what it is like to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, or transgender in a professional working environment.

PLV Highlights:

Afraid your resume might not stand out in a crowd? Avoid the Wingdings and perfumed paper and head on down to Career Services’ resume writing workshop on Friday, October 1 at 10:30 a.m. to learn how to prepare a resume that markets you.  And once you have the resume that will get you in the door, make sure you’re ready for the one-on-one. The Ace the Interview Workshop provides interviewing tips for internship and full time positions. (Note: This event, which takes place Tuesday, October 5 at 3:30 p.m. is mandatory for new co-op students.) So you’ve got the insider tips, let’s see how you use them! On Wednesday, October 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. you’re invited to Mock Interview Day where you can practice your poise under stress.

You’re already working toward greatness, why not learn how to work a career fair too? On Tuesday, October 12, at 3:30 p.m., learn important tips on how to prepare for career fairs and particularly, how to stand out in a crowd and stay noticed. Finally, put your skills to the test on Wednesday, October 20, at noon with the PLV Fall Job & Internship Fair where you can connect with a variety of organizations, including accounting firms, financial services, media, not-for-profits, government, healthcare, computer science, hospitality, and more.

White Plains Highlights:

Remember those sayings you hear all the time but often ignore? Things like, “practice makes perfect”, “stay awake and stay ahead,” or that it’s “always good to know a guy”? Well, they’re true. Learn how to network your way, not only to a new job, but also to success with step-by-step instructions. This event will take place on Tuesday, October 5, at 5:00 p.m.

We hope the answer is there, suited up, with plenty of resumes on hand. And we mean, plenty, because the IRS, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, JPMorgan Chase, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and AFLAC (yes, that AFLAC) are just a handful of the 45 participating employers scheduled to be at the annual Accounting and Finance Career Fair on September 22.

Get information about full-time job and internship opportunities in finance and accounting.

But before you start shaking hands and networking with employers, stop by CPA Recruiting Trends 101: What Every Accounting Student Needs to Know right before the fair in the Schimmel Lobby. Hear professionals from some of the top CPA firms discuss recruiting trends and expectations of students in undergraduate, graduate, and joint-degree programs here at Pace.

You can also stop by Career Services’ Open Hours on September 20, 21, 23, and 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to learn about the Campus Recruiting Program and get resume, interview, and job search help.

Need to work on your interview skills? Head to an upcoming Interview Workshop on September 17, 21, 28, or 29. And make sure you sign up on eRecruiting by September 26 for the big Practice Interview Day on October 6.

International students can get help at monthly interview workshops; next one up on September 23.  If you are an international grad student, you can go an Interview Workshop for MBA/MS International Students on September 21.

Are you graduating in the next year and interested in interviewing with companies that are recruiting for full-time employment after graduation? You must attend a Mandatory Campus Recruiting Program Workshop (CRP) on September 23 or 27 and have your resume approved for CRP in order to be eligible.

Are you a graduate student? Stop by the Co-op Internship Orientation & Information Session on September 13 to get info about internships and hear from an MBA/MS student’s experience with a co-op internship.

On September 15, stop by How to Work a Career Fair to learn exactly that.  On September 17, attend A Careers Open House at ZenithOptimedia, featuring presentations by senior executives; a panel discussion about job functions, career paths, and potential internships and careers; and a Q&A session and networking lunch. To attend the invitation-only event and learn all about the firm’s clients including L’Oreal, BMW, and the BBC, you must register by September 13.
