Be a Part of the 1%

Approximately 1% of New Yorkers donate blood each year, causing a drastic shortage of blood in the state. Join this group of life-savers as the Pace Physician Assistant Program hosts a blood drive on March 8 in NYC.

Each day, patients in our region need close to 2,000 people a day to roll up their sleeves and give the gift of life.

On Friday, March 8, the Physician Assistant Program’s Class of 2014 is organizing a blood drive for the New York Blood Center on from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Student Union in NYC.

Students and faculty are invited to sign up to donate by e-mailing donate4pacepa@gmail.com. Send your name and whether or not you would like to sign up to donate blood and/or be put on the bone marrow registry. Their goal of more than 70 donations is tough, so stop by and show your support for our PA students and those in need. Remember, the life you save may be your own.

Every Drop Counts

Every two seconds, someone needs blood to survive. It’s time to roll up your sleeves… because the Pace University-Lenox Hill Physician Assistant students are looking for yours on May 20!

The Pace-Lenox Hill PA Program will co-sponsor a bone marrow registry drive and a blood drive on May 20 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room on the NYC Campus and they need your help!

Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community are needed donate blood and to participate in a buccal (cheek) swab donation for tissue typing and donor registry.

The bone marrow drive will be guided by the Be The Match Foundation SM through the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). This organization helps people in need of a transplant of either bone marrow or blood products by finding voluntary donors that are willing and compatible for donation.

The blood drive will be led by the New York Blood Center (NYBC). This organization provides donated blood and essential blood products to almost 200 hospitals in the NY and NJ area that are used for transfusions and other clinical applications.

There will also be a location focused on a patient education, a key component of health care. Students will be providing patient education to people attending the event. Students will check blood pressure; have pamphlets describing the importance of blood donations and bone marrow transplants; and give overall advice to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. RSVP to: donate4pacepa@gmail.com
