Best Cheap Eats

Another day, another dollar…gone. If you’re spending $15 for lunch, put it back in your wallet and head to one of the three Cheap Eats winners. Many of you were skeptical, but cheap eats do exist. The Pawscars go to the Halal Truck on Ann Street and the $1 hot dog stand (NYC); and Pony Express (PLV).

Best Professor

They keep you up late and make you wake up early, but for some reason you love them. (Maybe it’s the fact that they’re giving you the tools you need to succeed…just sayin’!) While there were more than 20 professors nominated, two received a couple of extra votes. And the Pawscars for Best Professor go to… Professor Chris Walther in PLV and Professor Mark Weinstock in NYC !

The eyes have it! Do you ever feel like you’re being watched when you’re hanging around campus? Well, you probably are, since it seems our students love their people-watching. So where is the best people-watching spot on or around campus? The Pawscars go to… City Hall Park in NYC and in PLV, a tie between Kessel and Shirley Beth’s Way.

Best Student Organization

With nearly a hundred student organizations to choose from, your answers were just as numerous. In fact, there were almost no repeats. We said almost. While we wish we could give a Pawscar to all of you, we just don’t have enough virtual trophies. The Pawscars for Best Student Org go to…POP-TV and Stonewall Coalition, both NYC clubs. What’s going on PLV?

Best Bookstore

While many of us are guilty of trading in our library cards for iTunes cards and reading e-books on our iPads (or the Kindle or Nook, for others), there’s nothing quite like walking into a musty smelling bookstore and flipping through the pages of hundreds of books. And it seems you agree. The Pawscar for Best Bookstore goes to… Barnes and Noble! Two other local bookstores received several votes a piece including the Strand in NYC and Village Bookstore in PLV.

Best Coffee Shop

Frappes, lattes, coolattas, and macchiatos. They give you the jumpstart you need, and without them, you’d probably be drooling all over your organic chem book at your oh-so-early 11:00 a.m. class. Did Dunkin’ Donuts come out on top again or are they a “has-bean”? The Pawscars for Best Coffee Shop go to… Starbucks. Must be that 31 oz. Trenta!

Your volunteer picks ranged from animal shelters to performing arts enrichment for underprivileged young people to bereavement camps for children. But, ultimately, there were two favorites. The Pawscars for Best Place to Volunteer go to… NY Cares and the Pleasantville Cottage School.

So, which side is the grass greener on? The Pawscar for Best Park/Green Space goes to… Central Park in NYC and Croton Point Park in Westchester.

The Pawscars for Best Place to Do Homework go to… the Birnbaum and Mortola libraries in NYC and PLV.
