That age-old myth that Einstein failed math isn’t actually true, so stop using it as your go-to excuse and head over to end-of-semester math reviews to keep you from flunking finite math.

The Tutoring Center in NYC will host extended hours in the Library, Tutoring Center, and dorms on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays through May 7 in a variety of subjects including math, accounting, economics, biology, chemistry, and CIS. Visit their website for more information.

In PLV? The Tutoring Center is offering one-on-one and group math, accounting, business, economics, chemistry, CIS, and language tutoring seven days a week. Stop by Room 309 in Mortola Library and check out their finals schedule here.

Looking to get your study on in the Library? Both the Birnbaum and Mortola libraries will have extended hours for the final exam period. Need help with research for your final projects or papers? Ask a Librarian!

And finally, if you’re looking for less quiet and more puppy love, you’re in luck. After making several appearances in PLV, the Good Dog Foundation pups are heading to NYC, with a visit to the Birnbaum Library on Tuesday, May 7 at 6:00 p.m.

Building quadcopters (drones); nursing students' negativity towards the aging; studying the effects of video gaming on attention and impulsivity—these are just a few of the research projects that were presented at the Undergraduate Research Initiative Showcase. Announcing the winners and next year’s program…

For the past two semesters, 27 student and faculty pairs have been working together on research as part of Pace’s Undergraduate Research Initiative. From gender—Toemageddon and how news media frames gender-variance and gender-neutrality to what motivated women to participate in the recent Arab Spring revolution—to genes—identifying those necessary for the development of the brain and sense of smell of zebrafish to genetic profiling studies to identify novel pathways involved in the reactivation of tuberculosis.

On April 29 in NYC and May 1 in PLV, student and faculty pairs presented their research through poster sessions and formal presentations at the Undergraduate Research Initiative Showcases. The winning pair on the PLV Campus was Biology student Ruchi Sheth and Biology and Health Sciences Professor Jack Horne, PhD, who researched genes necessary for the development of the olfactory system in zebrafish. Honorary mention went to Nursing student Chava Pollak and Nursing Professor Sharon Stahl Wexler, PhD, for their work on the impact of an aging sensitivity experience on nursing students.

“I have acquired many concrete skills over the course of this project including public speaking and time management as I juggled this project with my regular course load. Additionally, I have broken out of the insular world of a student into the world of a working professional. My eyes are wide open and I am staring at a world of opportunity, adventure, and endless possibilities for my career in nursing,” says Pollak. “Most of all, the precious and greatest gift this project has given me is an unparalleled mentor and teacher who has afforded me all these opportunities of learning, networking, and personal growth.”

The winner pair on the NYC Campus was Arts and Entertainment Management and Film and Screen Studies student AliReza Vaziri and Environmental Studies Professor Marley Bauce, who focused on campus-wide environmentalism and understanding Pace’s sustainability initiatives through its dining halls. Honorary mention went to Biochemistry student Sophia Miotto and Biology Professor JaimeLee Rizzo, PhD, for their work on the synthesis of novel compounds to treat neuromuscular disorders.

Vaziri will travel to San Francisco to continue research with Professor Judith Pajo. “I plan on continuing my research into the problems associated with food waste by traveling to San Francisco over the summer to shoot footage for my documentary film. I firmly believe that conducting interdisciplinary research is crucial before taking any initiative,” says Vaziri. “This research project has had a significant impact on my experience at Pace University. I do believe that this research has made me a stronger candidate for the GreenPace Sustainability Award and the Jefferson Community Service Award, both of which I received this year.”

You can read more about the pairings and their progress on their blogs at www.pace.edu/ugresearch.

Attention undergraduate students from all majors: The Pace Undergraduate Research Initiative is back for the 2013-2014 academic year! This means you, yes you, will have the opportunity to be paired up with a faculty member according to interests and background to work on a research project from September 2013 until March 2014. Interested in conducting research with a faculty member and publishing your findings and presenting at a national conference? Apply by May 30! For more on the student or faculty application process and requirements, click here.

Interested in something for this summer? You’re in luck! To further increase opportunities for students to undertake research with faculty, the Student-Faculty Research Program has been expanded to include summer participants this year! Apply by Friday, May 31.

All research initiatives will be recognized at end-of-year showcases on both campuses and two award winners (one on each campus) will be announced and receive an award and funding to attend a regional or national conference. In addition to recognition, you’ll gain hands-on experience and a deeper appreciation of your field, work closely with world-renowned faculty, and strengthen your research, critical thinking, analytical, and writing skills.

Noam Chomsky and Oliver Stone are coming to Pace! Find out how you can join them and other Pace Community members this June as part of the Left Forum.

For the fifth year in a row, The Left Forum–one of the largest gatherings of progressive intellectuals, activists, academicians, and organizations from around the world–arrives on Pace’s NYC Campus from June 7–9. The Forum highlights and encourages pushing forward progressive agendas for social change and includes panels of all kinds to discuss variances, commonalities, and alternatives to current difficulties in the world, and to share ideas for understanding and transforming it. This year’s forum will focus on Mobilizing for Ecological/Economic Transformation.

So why does this matter to you? First of all, there will be awesome speakers like U.S. political theorist, activist, professor, and author Noam Chomsky, who will provide a global political analysis and will speak to the theme; and Oscar Award-winning director Oliver Stone, who will be joined by co-writer Peter Kuznick, Bill Fletcher, Jr., and Donna Murch, to discuss his 10-part Showtime series, Untold History of the United States, and the political challenges it raises today.

Plus you can come support the 11 Pace faculty members who will participate in eight panels on topics including climate justice, overpopulation, sustainability and a special Authors Roundtable on Occupying Political Science: The Occupy Wall Street Movement from New York to the World, featuring Pace Political Science professors and authors Christopher Malone, Meghana Nayak, Emily Welty, and Matthew Bolton. For more on the panels, click here.

So how else can you get involved? The Left Forum is looking for volunteers to aid in the registration and admission process, give directions to panels and exhibits, and guide people through the events. There is also a need for media, video recording and coordinating, as well as closing operations. Volunteer one shift to get a free three-day conference pass!

Class of 2013: It seems like just yesterday you were sitting in your UNV101 class hearing all about University life. Now, you’ve lived it and you’re preparing to turn the tassel, but your relationship with Pace is far from over. Become a champion of Pace’s future by becoming a part of the senior class campaign.

My gift won’t make a difference. Pace doesn’t need the money. Someone else will do it. Wrong, wrong, and we’re not talking about someone else. We’re talking about you!

Since 1993, the Senior Class Campaign at Pace University has been a student-led initiative that raises funds in support of Pace. This year, the Senior Class Committee of 2013 has elected to allocate all funds raised to help support student scholarships. The Senior Campaign gives seniors the opportunity to make their first contribution to assist current and future Pace students, an expression of solidarity with fellow Setters, gratitude to the faculty, and pride in our alma mater.

When you make a gift of just $13 to the Senior Class Campaign, you will receive a Senior Campaign t-shirt. This year, the campaign is focused on getting 100% of the senior class to donate. Think of the impact you can make if every senior gives $13, the cost of an NYC lunch.

Plus, in addition to helping out fellow students, you will be helping to increase the value of the degree you are about to receive! College rankings, like U.S. News & World Report, are determined by a number of factors, one of them being alumni participation in the Annual Fund. As soon-to-be alumni, your contributions will help Pace continue to rise in those rankings. As Pace rises, the degree you are about to earn becomes even more valuable.

Start your legacy today by contributing to the Senior Class Campaign. Visit http://www.pace.edu/seniorcampaign to donate!
