This week, it’s all about Michelangelo, Ana Moura, and Mariachi as the Schimmel welcomes three exciting events.
First up, the Great Painters and their Masterpieces: Encore! Four More! featuring lectures on some of fine arts finest: Michelangelo, Peter Paul Rubens, Claude Monet, and Georgia O’Keeffe. On Wednesday, February 8, Pace Professor and critically-acclaimed author and lecturer Janetta Rebold Benton, PhD, continues her exciting lecture series with an encore season, including a discussion on Michelangelo and the Renaissance (next presentations include Peter Paul Rubens on February 15, Claude Monet on February 22, and Georgia O’Keeffe on February 29). Portuguese vocalist Ana Moura, who’s collaborated with The Rolling Stones and Prince, brings her soulful and riveting interpretation of her land’s captivating fado tradition to the Schimmel stage on February 10; and if a fiesta is what you’re looking for, set your eyes and ears on Grammy Award-winning mariachi ensemble Mariachi Los Camperos on February 11; Next week, Ladino star Yasmin Levy, who weaves traditional Ladino with flamenco, shares the stage with the great Turkish multi-instrumentalist Omar Faruk Tekbilek on February 16.
