“I run for your mother, your sister, your wife. I run for you and me, my friend. I run for life.” –Melissa Etheridge
On September 18, join the Pace Community as we run for life at the Susan G. Komen Greater NYC: Race for the Cure in Central Park.
This year, more than 1.6 million people (that’s right, 1.6 million) will help raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer at 140 events around the world, making it the largest series of 5k run/walk events in the world.
With more than 110 participants last year, the Pace team once again won for the largest university team. And we want to keep this streak going! Registration has been open since May, but the numbers are not what we want them to be. So what are you waiting for?
Participants will receive:
> A Commemorative t-shirt
> A goody bag
> Transportation from the Westchester Campus to Central Park
Contact Ellen Mandel at firstname.lastname@example.org or at (914) 261-9226.
If you need any additional incentive, new to this year’s race is a Pledge Prize Program, where participants who take the $250 Challenge will be eligible to win prizes including Komen Race for the Cure merchandise, MP3 players, kitchen appliances, camcorders, flat screen televisions, clothing, and more!
Out of town that weekend? Can’t make the race? You can still make a difference. Back by popular demand—Sleep for the Cure! Register for the race and then spend your Sunday morning sleeping in. Participants can also run or walk.
And this isn’t the only walk Pace students are walking! Just a few months ago, students, faculty, and staff on both campuses gathered in PLV to raise $43,980 for the American Cancer Society at Pace’s annual Relay for Life event.
Interested in more walks, runs, and races for good causes? Coming up soon: the 10th Annual Miles for Moms Run/Walk on July 17 in Central Park honors moms who have battled cancer. On August 7, 4,000 lucky people will use Yankee Stadium as their course at the Damon Runyon run/walk for cancer research, where participants can take their very own victory laps around the warning track. JRunners Relay of 2011 will raise money for Lou Gehrig’s disease with a sensational 138-mile relay run from Brooklyn to the Catskills on August 17. Register as a St. Jude Hero and raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the Great Urban Race, a wild urban adventure where teams solve clues and complete mental and physical challenges while discovering NYC in a fresh way, on August 20. Raise money to achieve a world of No More Homeless Pets at the Strut Your Mutt walk on September 25 in NYC.
Rather wait until the fall? Well, tis the season to be jogging! Bike for a world free of MS on September 25 at Bike MS Southern NYC (20 or 57 miles) in Westchester. In NYC? Bike MS NYC (30, 50, or 100 miles) will be held on October 2.
